Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center & Tour | 12 Utah Staycations

Flaming Gorge Dam has a free tour and it was one of the highlights of our Vernal Staycation! I can't recall ever doing the tour before and I have vague memories of maybe driving across the dam, but I'm not even sure. When chatting with the locals of Vernal we asked them which would you if you only had time for one. "Would you go to Fantasy Canyon or Flaming Gorge?" Everybody said Flaming Gorge! (We see you Fantasy Canyon, we'll be back for you.) On our way home, we decided to make the hour long drive and head up
Red Fleet Dinosaur Track Hike | 12 Utah Staycations harm Mon, 06/17/2019 - 21:25
Hiking Red Fleet Dinosaur Track was AMAZING! This 3 mile roundtrip hike is well marked and so fun. We had a very busy couple of days, so we decided to leave the kids back at the Dinosaur Inn to rest with Steph's husband and head out for a little night hike. The coolest part of this trail is that it has dino tracks printed along the entire thing. At first we thought it was a real track, but then we realized it was a trail marker. So clever. This trail is very hard to follow, not a clear path, so
Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum | 12 Utah Staycations harm Mon, 06/17/2019 - 21:09
One can't go to Vernal without visiting the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum! Since the weather had been rainy, we decided that the museum was just the right solution! Besides that, who doesn't LOVE dinosaurs! If you want, they have a fun booklet you can purchase at the front desk. It helps the kids pay more attention and even learn some fun facts about dinosaurs! The kids loved running around and we loved not getting rained on. We went to the outside portion of the museum. The kids loved running around and we loved not getting

Antica Forma | 12 Utah Staycations

After another full day, Harmony taking all 7 littles for the day and Stephanie living the dream and rafting the most incredible river, we were so excited for a chill pizza night! Antica Forma is right next to Dinosaur Inn so we walked across the parking lot and were there! I just love the idea of walking to dinner. That is my favorite part about staying downtown in any city. Apparently, the owner won all these awards and his pizza is legit, so we thought we would give it a try. You Guys! It was SO incredibly good! When we

7-11 Ranch Restaurant | 12 Utah Staycations

After taking 7 kids under the age of 8 to The Wall of Bones at the Dinosaur Quarry, we decided lunch was in order! We hit up the kid friendliest place to eat there is in Vernal, 7-11 Ranch Restaurant downtown! Not only is it a local restaurant, it's also an awesome gift shop! We had some serious reservations about taking all the tiny kids with us. We had perhaps waited just a smidge too long too eat, so my husband was worried about all the hangry kids! When we walked in, a lady literally dropped her jaw when she

Downtown Vernal | 12 Utah Staycations

Downtown Vernal is so charming! And if that wasn't enough, they planted a billion flowers (2,000 flower pots to just to make it down right dreamy. Walking downtown is a must. So much to see within a few blocks. Heritage Museum is FREE and is a great spot to beat the heat or hide on a rainy day. They had some great activities for kids. This park had some awesome murals and fountains for the kids. Flowers everywhere! Vernal is known for their amazing flowers. They are hard to miss. 4 brother's Pizza has the best Italian ice in town

Murals in Vernal | 12 Utah Staycations

Have you been to Vernal? If so, then you will definitely remember the flowers. There are giant flower pots lining both sides of the main street. There are so many flowers that it takes 2 full-time employees to care for them. Pretty impressive. Another thing that caught our eye was all of the wall murals. There were more than this but these are the ones we passed while walking to dinner in the evenings. We'd love to know your favorites. Leave a comment and let us know so we can be sure to visit next time we are in town.
Dinosaur Inn & Suites | 12 Utah Staycations harm Mon, 06/17/2019 - 20:52
Dinosaur Inn & Suites in Vernal is a locally owned motel and it's awesome! The rooms have been recently remodeled! I love motels. I love being able to drive up to my room and have a little bit more fresh air! While I love hotels too, I think my heart truly loves the vintage vibe of a motel. Dinosaur Inn is even more special because of all the dinosaurs! The vintage dinosaur sign has been there for three generations. You can find subtle hints of dinosaurs everywhere. I loved how ALL the flower baskets were held with dinosaur holders. At
