Dottie's Kolaches | Grubbin' | Midway Staycation

Dottie’s is an amazing bakery in Heber City. It’s right on Main Street in the middle of town. Dottie's drive-in was busy as could be! Apparently, it’s THE place to get your morning beverage/kolache. Dottie’s has recently done some remodeling to their brick and mortar place and just barely opened again. Hence the reason the drive-in was so busy. The Salt Project met the owner Sierra and were able to try out some breakfast foods. (Thanks Dottie’s!) The kids had to try some of the cinnamon rolls, cookies and of course, the kolaches! Kolaches are a sweet dough that’s either

Snowshoeing Guardsman Pass Road | Big Cottonwood Canyon

The thing that I have found helps me to get through winter in Northern Utah is embracing it. Once I am playing in the snow and admiring all the ice crystals it is then that I find peace. I feel so privileged to be living so close to MOUNTAINS. Seriously, I can be in so many mountains/canyons in less than 30 minutes. I personally love Salt Lake City so much for this very reason. It is so close to mountains and I find that frequently taking my kids outside helps me in so many ways. First of all, my house

Snake Creek Grill | Grubbin'

After working up an appetite exploring the Midway Ice Castles, we were starving! I've wanted to eat in this cute little place for years! It looks like an old ghost town, or a western town from a movie, but there are shops and restaurants in the old buildings! This is a photo of Snake Creek Grill while they were filming a movie on location once. All of the old buildings here were brought here years ago from Idaho, and the owner of Snake Creek Grill said they have been there for 19 years! Pretty amazing! They had some pretty fancy

Midway Ice Castles | 5 First Timer Tips

This was our second year visiting the Midway Ice Castles. It's quite the sight to behold. Our kids look forward it our visit each time and talk about it for weeks after. If you are thinking about it, DO IT! You won't regret it! We wanted to share 5 Tips for a visit to the Midway Ice Castles! #1 No Strollers Allowed If you have littles that might get tired, or cold, consider bringing a sled with a rope to drag around, or use a carrier so you can keep your hands free for picture taking and holding hot cocoa

Dairy Keen | Grubbin'

We only make in to Midway and Heber City a couple times a year and one of our stops is always Dairy Keen. This family owned Utah business has THE BEST burgers and shakes in the area. The place is always busy and the service is fast. We have never had to wait more than a few minutes for our food. After you place your order you can go find a seat and they buzz you when your food is ready. They also have one of those fancy drink machines so the possibilities are endless for drink mixes. And the

Zermatt Resort in the Winter

Winter in Midway and Heber City is pretty magical! Right before Christmas we headed to The Zermatt Resort for a little staycation. We visited the Elfz Academy. This was Zermatt's first year hosting the academy. Each kid received a map with different things to go check off. They had to learn how to wrap presents and make toys, build a snowman, and they got to ride on Utah’s ONLY Christmas themed flight simulator ride to The North Pole. We went to snow school and we even got to take a ride on the Elf Express. All of Santas helpers were

Heber Valley Artisan Cheese Farm | Field Trippin'

We stopped by Heber Valley Cheese for a tour while we were in Midway for the Soldier Hollow Classic and Swiss Days. After we sampled about 94 types of cheese and ice cream, they so kindly took us on a tour of the Dairy Farm next door. They are just starting to give tours of the farm to the public and we were the first to try is out. Furture tours might not be exactly like ours as they work out the bumps and streamline it. But we wanted to share our experience. First stop. BABY COW HEAVEN! I mean

Heber Valley Railroad | Heber Creeper | Field Trippin'

Heber Valley is absolutely charming! After spending the day watching the Sheep Dogs and take a tour at Heber Valley Cheese, we headed to the other side of town to check out the Heber Creeper. It was fun for the kids to see the old trains. My great grandpa worked on these trains! And my Grandma Milly worked at Union Station in Ogden years ago. So I told stories about their connection to the trains, and they walked around and explored. On the main street (coming from Midway toward Heber), before you turn off for the Heber Creeper, there is
