Field Trippin'

We were in Southern Utah for Thanksgiving Break, and was able to kick-off Christmas by viewing of Elf the Musical at Tuacahn Amphitheatre! Elf The Musical is now playing at the newly renovated Hafen Theatre (their indoor theatre) at Tuacahn! You know The Salt Project loves Tuacahn! We headed out to the Topaz Internment Camp Site just outside of Delta on Sunday morning. While there isn't much out there, I really wanted to see for myself where the Japanese people were moved too. Since I had already cried the day before at the Topaz Museum, I felt much more prepared for the site itself. There was a sort of tragic beauty to the place. Nothing for miles, desert, sagebrush. We were headed to the Topaz Museum in Delta and stumbled across the Great Basin Museum which just happens to be next door. So, of course, we stopped in. They had some awesome glow in the dark rocks, a train set, and some awesome old stuff. We only have about 10 minutes to look around, so we didn't get to experience the full museum, but this place is definitely worth the visit if you are passing through town. They also handed out free obsidian to the kids, which they were all thrilled about! Right next door is the Topaz Museum

The Topaz Museum in Delta is a beautiful tribute to those who suffered at the Japanese Internment Camps. While I don't know anyone personally from the Topaz camp, my grandmother was sent to an internment camp in Arkansas. She never talked about it, not really in detail, no one did. It was something the Japanese people didn't talk about. My husband and I were trying to explain to our kids what the internment camps were and it sounded stupid to say "Grandma was sent there because she was Japanese." What else could we say? While planning our RV Trip, I called up my friend Chamaine from Wandering Families to see what cool things to visit. She gave me plenty of places to visit and Ophir Ghost Town is one of them! Ophir was a mining town that was founded in 1870 when silver was found. As soon as that silver dried up, everyone left. There are a few souls who still live there and I don't blame them. If you've been following along on our RV Staycation, you know that we love rocks. I mean, we just visited the Dugway Geode Beds and U-Dig Fossils, so it only seemed natural to visit an actual rock shop! We visited the Bug House in Delta. It's locally owned and mines many of their own rocks! We were able to check out the shop and purchase some rocks (because you know I can't say no to rocks. Ever.) We saw behind the scenes where all the cutting, polishing and grit happens in a rock shop. It was super cool to find

Stephanie and I LOVE Station Park. It's our go-to shopping place and luckily it's super close! If you haven't shopped at Station Park, you need too!
