Vernal Brewing Company | 12 Utah Staycations

After a full day of exploring Vernal we were starving. Luckily Vernal Brewery is just a block from the Dinosaur Inn and the weather was so beautiful so we walked to dinner. I don't typically order soda but I never pass up a home brewed root beer. One tip that we have learned when eating out with kids, always order their food with the appetizer, that way they don't have to wait so long for food. Mini corn dogs for Vesper, fried brussel sprouts for mama. They were excellent BTW. Giant kid burger for the win. And I'm just going

Rafting the Green River | 12 Utah Staycations

I had NO IDEA that Vernal had river rafting. I was super excited to go and so very grateful to Harmony for braving 7 kids under the age of 8 for the day. She got a lot of CRAZY looks while she was out exploring while we were gone. We did need a national parks pass for this trip since we were entering the river at the Dinosaur National Monument. You can buy a day pass or annual, or if you have a 4th grader, passes are FREE (4th grader must be with you). The OARS HQ was in downtown

Red Fleet Paddlefest | 12 Utah Staycations

Red Fleet Paddlefest is a yearly event at Red Fleet State Park. I’d never even heard of Red Fleet before and it’s truly a hidden gem. Just a few miles outside of Vernal is this red oasis of water. Red Fleet was named for the rocks that surround the reservoir that look like a fleet of ships. It really does. Paddlefest is a free local event where everyone has a chance to paddleboard, kayak, and canoe on Red Fleet. Basically, anything it a paddle. There was even a trampoline on the water! All the activities were free and there was

Get Grilled | 12 Utah Staycations

Get Grilled is a newish sandwich shop that Get Glazed in Vernal started last year. MAN. IT was good. We took ours on take-out so we could picnic after Paddlefest at Red Fleet. Christ, the owner wakes up at 2 AM to bake the donuts and the bread. The bread was delicious. The meat was soooooo good. We tried the Cuban, the Philly, a whole slew of sandwiches. The kids’ favorite side was the Fried Ravioli. So good. If you are in Vernal, be sure to visit Get Grilled!

The Little Sweet Pea | 12 Utah Staycations

We ran into some pretty incredible locals while visiting Vernal and they were all so kind to share with us some hidden gems and places to visit. One such local mentioned that we stop by his wife's candy shop, shameless plug, but we are so glad he shared. This sweet family-owned shop was the perfect place for our kids to pick out a special treat. We let everyone pick out one item and they were all on cloud nine! Sucker for baby Wells (19 months) Riz (8 yrs) really wanted this giant jawbreaker. I talked him down from the ledge

Get Glazed Donut Meet-Up | 12 Utah Staycations

Two Year ago we were visiting Vernal and Get Glazed invited us out to try their donuts. It was the first I saw The Salt Project made out of donuts and I almost cried. The donuts are freaking amazing. I’m more of a cake donut person, but I LOVE LOVE Get Glazed donuts. Get Glazed Donuts are made from scratch, made every day, made locally. They even flip and hand drip their donuts. They aren’t light airy donuts, but more like a chewy, light donut. It’s hard to describe but man. They are so. Dang.good. We loved watching the whole

Quarry Exhibit Hall | Dinosaur National Monument | 12 Utah Staycations

We are super lucky to have THE WALL OF BONES on the Utah side of Dinosaur National Monument. It also happens to be the perfect place if you have 7 kids under the age of 8 with you. Stephanie and her older crew with Rafting on the river, so we had all the littles of The Salt Project! I really don't mind hanging out with the younger crew, especially, since I had my trusty sidekick husband. The younger half of The Salt Project still enjoys things like museums and are pretty happy go-lucky kids. First order of business was to

Red Fleet Dinosaur Track Hike | 12 Utah Staycations

Hiking Red Fleet Dinosaur Track was AMAZING! This 3 mile roundtrip hike is well marked and so fun. We had a very busy couple of days, so we decided to leave the kids back at the Dinosaur Inn to rest with Steph's husband and head out for a little night hike. The coolest part of this trail is that it has dino tracks printed along the entire thing. At first we thought it was a real track, but then we realized it was a trail marker. So clever. This trail is very hard to follow, not a clear path, so

Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum | 12 Utah Staycations

One can't go to Vernal without visiting the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum! Since the weather had been rainy, we decided that the museum was just the right solution! Besides that, who doesn't LOVE dinosaurs! If you want, they have a fun booklet you can purchase at the front desk. It helps the kids pay more attention and even learn some fun facts about dinosaurs! The kids loved running around and we loved not getting rained on. We went to the outside portion of the museum. The kids loved running around and we loved not getting
