Sego Lily Gardens in Sandy, Utah is an educational outdoor garden designed to teach kids and adults alike how to use water conservation principles to create beautiful and water-wise landscapes!
I decided this would be a fun outing for my kids and I leading up to Earth day so I visited the Sego Lily information website and printed off their Scavenger Hunt Activity for us to do on our visit! My kids were reading every plant identification tag and interpretive sign trying to complete the activity and win a prize!
The gardens are setup so visitors can explore on their own following the paths through beautifully landscaped gardens. Along the paths you will find many of the plants are labeled with identification tags to help visitors learn about the plants.
There are also interpretive signs throughout the gardens that highlight water conservation principles and practices. If you are looking for a more in depth tour the Garden staff is available for tours and individual classes which can be setup by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 801-568-6087
We were amused by all the different plant names and really enjoyed all the early Spring plants that were just popping up! This Garden is perfect for repeat visits at different times during the growing season to see what new plants have bloomed or sprouted!
Having all the plants labeled really helps enforce plant identification skills and encourages them to slow down and observe the world around them!
We spent over an hour exploring all the Gardens and reading through the interpretive signs. I highly encourage you to attend their Annual Water Week Garden Fair May 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
They will have vendors on a variety of Water and Environmental topics, educational handouts, experts to chat with and the first 100 families get a free plant! There will also be an animal demonstration by Wild Wonders!
Thanks for the write up Tiffany!
