Giveaway | This Is The Place Heritage Park | Salt Lake City | Pizza Studio

Our Salt Project Newsletter contained the location of a year pass for our subscribers.  The first family to show up and claim it won. That location was This is the Place Heritage Park! Be sure to sign up for more secret giveaways! Plus at the end of each post we put in some tips and this time we have a coupon too!

July 24, 1847, the pioneers arrived in the valley of the Great Salt Lake, Brigham Young, who was ill with mountain fever, looked out at the vast desert below and declared, "This is the right place, drive on."

While the day started out dreadfully cold and snowy, we were automatically pulled into the charm of This is the Place.

I was kind of blown away.  If you've ever been to Disneyland you know it's a pretty magical place right?  Just think This is the Place as a western-pioneer Disneyland setting.  It was amazing.  There are at least 26 pioneer building there, since they labeled their building A-Z, it's safe to assume at least that many right?  Some of them were actually pioneer homes.

Even if you don't have pioneer heritage, this place it totally worth visiting.  You could spend days there and never get bored.  Many of the buildings have some kind of hands on interaction with people dressed up and filled with all sorts of cool facts.

There are trains to give you a tour of the whole park (we strongly suggest this first to gain your bearings, it's that big.) There are so. many. buildings.  A barn, doughnuts, barbers, a candy shop, Grill, ice cream parlor, gift shop, blacksmith, bank, firehouse, sugar mill, countless cabins, ZCMI Mercantile Store...the list goes on and on!  You'd definitely need a year pass to see everything there.

We went opening weekend specifically for Baby Animal Days.

We are huge baby animal lovers. I mean, who can resist little yellow chicks! You can hold the chicks and pet other animals like goats (with twins) and bunnies.

They even had puppies! The kids really wanted to ride the ponies, which, the line was kind of long, but they were so happy we did. The first half of our day was spent mainly with the animals and riding the train, so we decided to break and get some lunch. With 9 kids between three families, this ain't no easy thang! Especially, because we have kids with some pretty serious food allergies.

Pizza Studio

1332 S Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84108

Melinda has two littles who are allergic to eggs, milk and different kinds of nuts. Melinda's oldest Corbin (8), has never been able to go out with his friends and eat what they were eating. His mom usually has to make him a sandwhich for him. To say she was excited is probably an understatement. They rarely goes out to eat as a family because it's hard to find a restaurant that works for everyone.

Harmony's family has milk intolerances, so avoiding dairy is a must. If she does have pizza, it's usually ordered without cheese.

Luckily, Pizza Studio can cater to almost anyone. We actually found out about Pizza Studio because Stephanie had won a giveaway on Instagram with them.  We're lucky she did!

You can choose your own crust (gluten-free too), sauce, cheese (they even have vegan cheese) and UNLIMITED TOPPINGS!  The also have different pizzas you can choose from, but for people with different food allergies, making your own is the best!

Their crust is thin so really, you could get a whole pizza to yourself.  Try the Whole Grain & Flax Seed, so good!  One day, try a pizza without cheese, if only to see the face of the person making your pizza.

Endless options and everyone was happy. Their beverage options are pretty dang good too.  Try the Apple Beer, it's a local company!

After our bellies were filled we were ready to head back to This is the Place!

Be sure to stop and check out the walk way into the park one day.

The day started warming up, just a little.  We couldn't decide if it was better to be super hot or super cold...Utah can be so weird.  Luckily, some of the buildings had heat, or was so cool that you'd forget all about being cold.

Each building was so different and very hands-on.

From doing the laundry to plowing the field. You quickly gained a small insight to the pioneer life.

One building even had toys that children could play with.

On one of the roads, we found a man with a few different birds.  Isn't the barn owl beautiful?

The Native American Village was pretty neat too. The kids loved making a quick necklace with an arrowhead on it.

The barber had to be one of the favorites.

Corbin was able to get his first shave (without any cuts.)  Apparently, if you wanted to know the town gossip, you headed to the barber. We loved meeting the local barber.

We also visited the bank and learned all about Utah money.

The tannery was also a favorite.  Each child received a piece of leather that they could stamp themselves. Little Aiko (2) even gave the hammer a whack.

This is one of my personal favorites. I love learning about natural remedies for everything and this place was perfect!

The kids on the other hand, loved picking out a penny candy.

It's a beautiful area.  Be sure to check out their virtual tour, so you can see just how many buildings there are!

The last place we found was the Children's Playground.  There are 6 or 7 little playhouses that really aren't that much bigger than most of the log homes.

One cabin that stood out was the Burnett Log Home. Originally this cabin was built in 1868 and housed 9 of their 14 children in a tiny one bedroom home. You guys, it's teeny tiny.  I have no idea how they did it. NO IDEA.

That was a lot of pictures, but we want to document as much as possible for you and we want to send you and your family! There's so much more that we wanted to see and eat there. Really, a day wasn't quite long enough for us. Be sure to check out their website and plan your day(s) there!

My daughter loved seeing the baby animals when we went last week. Living only 15 minutes away from the park, we may have to make it a regular activity.

Gosh I love this place. I have only gone as adult with my kids once, after it was closed, in the dark. It was still wonderful. We saw a small herd of deer eating apples from the trees right in front of us. It was kind of sereal.
