Utah Flying Trapeze | Giveaway

We had never been to the Olympic Oval before. It was fun to finally see it and talk to the kids about when the Olympics were here in SLC in 2002, seems like not that long ago.

When we walked inside the HUGE building, there were people ice skating, kids playing hockey games, and people running around the outside track. The place was hoppin. In the South Corner of the building we could see the Trapeze! That's when things got real. This was really happening.

Utah Flying Trapeze hosted us for an evening that we will NEVER forget! None of us had ever tried anything like this. We were all nervous and excited, but mostly nervous.

Our instructors were SO incredibly kind and helpful. I really can't put into words how amazing they were. Pure gold, I tell ya. We had 3 moms in our group, none of us thought that we would be able to do it, some of us hadn't slept in days, others of us can't do more than 2 sit ups (baby #4 yo, she split my abs and now they don't work). Ok, I might be exaggerating a bit, but the fact is, we were tired and not in shape. But these sweet instructors assured us that we would make that catch at the end. I was ready to prove them wrong. I was scared to DEATH! And I knew for a fact that I wouldn't be able to lift my legs over my head onto a bar.

Period.

We had 5 kids in the group, ages 5-10. The instructors were amazing with them, teaching them to juggle and swinging them around while they waited for their turn, and encouraging them and helping when they learned to Trapeze.

First thing first. We got a little lesson in Trapeze 101. Basically, it all went over my head because all I could hear was my heart beating. They made sure each person had a chance to practice the drill before we got started.

Safety first! We were always fastened to a harness.

At the top of the platform, you have to hang your toes over the edge and grab the bar while an instructor holds your belt. Then you jump and they carefully let you drop over the edge. After that, its all a blur. Luckily, you don't have to remember a thing. The instructor at the bottom yells each command so you know exactly what to do.

"Legs up!"

"Hands off." Stuff like that.

Afton was our littlest (5yrs) Trapeze Artist. She did amazing!

She was so brave.

Learning the tricks of the trade from the pros.

Everyone had several lessons and we were now all ready for the next step. "The Catch".

Ok, this was it. The moment of truth. Could we really Trapeze? We had all nailed the "legs up, hands down" part. Now we had a lesson in "the catch". This was it. This was the big time!

Practicing "the catch".

And some of us played while the rest of us tried not to pee our pants from excitement.

Chalking up and getting a little war paint. I was so proud of Breckyn for going first! She is fearless.

Nailed it!

We did it! We actually did it! I'm not going to lie, I really thought that I wouldn't be able to do it. Sad, I know, I should have more faith in myself, but the sit-up struggle is real guys. The abs don't work like they used to. So I really didn't think it would work. I'm proud to say that I did it! But I couldn't have done it without our amazing instructors. Like I said before, they are pure gold. Seriously the sweetest people. They had so much faith in us and really made it such an amazing experience. We were all on a major high afterwards and here I am, a week later and I CAN NOT STOP thinking about it! One of the coolest things I have ever done, that for sure.

And now, 2 of our kids want to take Trapeze lessons and join the circus! So we are basically thrilled to death that they know what they want to be when they grow up! Three cheers for the circus!

I don't dream to fly, but my son dreams to fly to have new experiences that not many kids get nowadays. He loves to jump and climb over everything everywhere we go.

I want to join the actual circus just for the food! Since I"m headed to middle age and all that food sticks to my hips now, I"ll go with second best and join the trapeze team!

I would love to join the circus so I could hang out with animals all day and make them happy they are there! I also love being in front of a crowd. I'm a tumbler but I'm nervous of heights so this is something I would love to try and get over my fears! I talked him in to doing the SKY COASTER at Lagoon and we both almost cried haha! (I also told my husband we are going sky diving for my 30th birthday so I can TOTALLY get over it...we will see if I can!)

I hope this is the right place to comment! I'd love to try this! It reminds me of the great Shel Sliverstein peom about not sneezing!
