Camping at Veyo Pool Resort: A Hidden Gem in Southern Utah

If you’re looking for a unique camping experience in southern Utah, let me introduce you to a place that feels like a little oasis tucked away in the red rock canyons: Veyo Pool & Crawdad Canyon Resort. Just 20 minutes north of St. George, this spot combines camping, hot springs, a swimming pool, and a one of a kind canyon setting all in one place.

Why Veyo Pool Resort is Special

Most people think of southern Utah for its big national parks—Zion, Bryce, Arches. But Veyo Pool Resort is a hidden gem that gives you a completely different kind of adventure. The property sits inside a volcanic canyon where a natural spring flows year-round. The resort built a pool that stays a refreshing 85°F, making it perfect for hot summer days. And the canyon is usually about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area.

And here’s the twist: the resort is also known for crawdad catching! You can grab a bucket and net, wade into the stream, and try your hand at catching these little critters. Families especially love it—it’s a mix of play, adventure, and a throwback to simpler times.

Camping at Veyo Pool

Camping here is cozy and rustic. The campsites are nestled right against the canyon walls, shaded by tall trees with the sound of the stream running nearby. You can choose from:
   - Tent sites (great for those who want to stay close to the water and wake up to canyon views)

   -  RV spots available

   - Farm House air bnb is also available to rent. We stayed here last year and loved it. Details here.

Things to Do

Veyo Pool is the kind of place where you can both relax and play. Here are some highlights:
   •    Swim in the spring-fed pool – crystal-clear and refreshing.
   •    Catch crawdads in the stream—fun for kids and surprisingly entertaining for adults.
   •    Hike Crawdad Canyon – short trails lead you through the volcanic rock formations.
   •    Rock climbing – the canyon is actually a popular local climbing spot with bolted routes.
   •    Relax under the stars – the canyon walls block city lights, making it a great stargazing spot.

After visiting last year, the kids wanted to come back and try camping with friends! We booked sites together at the back of the canyon, so we had our own little private area to hang out. We cooked so pretty incredible meals, read in hammocks, caught crawdads, explored caves and trails, and non stop swimming for 3 days!

It was the most magical camping experience! The temps in the canyon are absolute perfection. Camping in August can be hard but it wasn't too hot or too cold.

We haven't been tent camping in a few years. We usually take our camper. This was more work, but we will definetly to it again because the kids loved it so much.

We booked site 6,7, and 8. 8 is bigger and fits 2 tents, so that where we set up our blackstone and thats where everyone congregated. Its the end of the row, so we all had that back corner to ourselves, plus the river runs behind these sites which we loved.

There are 30 sites, but only a handful include parking for a car. There are smaller ones that would be perfect for a youth camp (if people only have a small tent and bag to carry).

We basically packed everything including the kitchen sink, so there is no way those would have worked for us.

Beehive meals grill box has been out favorite this summer. Thats how Riz learned how to grill on the Blackstone.

A few times each year Veyo hosts a movie night! We just happened to be there that weekend. You can reserve a lounge chair or tube and float in the water while the movie plays. The kids loved it.

In addition to crawdad catching, the kids caught plenty of little lizards.

The Veyo cafe is perfect for lunch, dinner, or snacks. They have a great selection for kids as well as some tasty burgers and corn dogs.

If you are staying a few days, its definitely worth it to buy the veyo cup for unlimited drink refills during your stay.
