As a family we put together a list of "Must Have" items for a trip to Lake Powell. These are items we took and LOVED, or didn't take and wish we had.
We took paddle boards down, and I wish we had taken MORE! They were a HUGE hit with everyone (ages 9-57). They were rarely parked at the side of the boat. Everyone was taking them out one after the other. This was the BEST thing we took on the trip! We rented from Green Adventure Sports in West Point, UT. They are right off the freeway. They work by appointment, so you just let them know when you will be there and they will be already for you. So easy. They also included paddles and life jackets for free (check and check).
The landscape was UNREAL! I would have loved to sit on a rock (in the shade of course) and have some fun water coloring the gorgeous canyons. They looked like they were water colored themselves! Huge black streaks of sentiment dripping down the walls. It was so incredibly beautiful!
I HIGHLY recommend taking one. Mine was my sisters from her trip to Disneyland years ago, the batteries fell out the first day (now living at the bottom of the lake), so the fan blades were always in the way of the squirter, so I will be picking up this pretty little fan next time we go. (if we ever get invited back)
There were so many fish, the kids really wish they had a pole and net to catch and release and work on their fishing skills.
True story. I only took swimmers and a t-shirt and skirt. No PJ's, no shorts, no undies. I knew it would be hot so I took as little clothing as possible. But in the end, I really did want to wear some "normal" clothes for a bit. But who knows... We slept on the top deck in a swim suit without even a light sheet over us. It was THAT hot!
This is what my husbands wished he had brought. Because boys like throwing stuff.
Laptop and Projector
Our last night we projected a movie onto the canyon wall. It was pretty magical!
Stay tuned for a detailed play by play on Lake Powell with KIDS! We'll be sharing lots of tips.
