Slide the City | Salt Lake City

It. Was. Freaking. Amazing.

We got there an hour early because we thought parking would be crazy and we didn't pick up our packets ahead of time like we were told too. Luckily, because we were early, it didn't matter that we drove to the wrong place to pick up our packets, plus we got a SWEET parking spot. Always go early friends, the parking gods will smile upon you.

Anyways, we are about to show you a large amount of photos with lots of hot pink tubes.

See, we signed up for the 9am-11am slot, thinking it would be less crowded. It was for sure the best time to pick! Or so we thought.

I think there were maybe 50 of us, but around 9:30 we were all still standing in line...and waiting.

So we took more photos.

Around 10:00 there was some grumbling, stomachs and mouths.

Around 10:15 we were doing all we could to keep the kids and ourselves happy. We were getting hot and hangry! Luckily, Slide the City passed out some granola bars and water.

Finally!!! IT WAS TIME! We aren't exactly sure what held everything up, but they gave all the riders like 4 or 5 extra slides for the long wait. TOTALLY WORTH WAITING! Especially for some of the people who only paid for 1 slide!

1,000 feet of slippery-sliding-bliss! I tell you, Slip 'n' Sliding has been a big tradition growing up. I thought we were intense with our 100 foot slide with multiple sprinklers, but this takes the cake.

We didn't hear a single complaint about having to climb the 1,000 feet back UP the hill to the top. Well, maybe there was, but it was me. Hey, I have had a cold for the last week...funny how 1 week of sickness totally takes away weeks of working out.

So much happiness.

The view was AMAZING. You could see all of Salt Lake City from the top of Main Street.

Of course, we had to do a large group. We found that the kids would get stuck and stop midway. (Which is never a fun/safe thing when adults are blasting by on their tubes.) So if we all linked together we could actually make it the whole way down. There were probably 10 different people stationed along the whole slide to supervise everything or give you a push if you needed some more speed.

At the bottom of the hill there was some walking.

Towards noon there was a noticeable amount of people. The line also got super long but it was pretty fast.

After our runs were out, (boo) we decided to grab some grub. Slide the City thought of everything! Food Trucks for some grub and The Photo Bus (below) was there to take free photo booth photos!

I can't even tell you how Stephanie and I have wanted to see this Photo Bus in real life. All our dreams came true the sunny Saturday.

Pyromaniacs Pizza Food Truck

We decided pizza was needed!

Because wood fire pizza doesn't get much better than this.

I really love the wood fire pizza because they aren't as greasy as normal pizza. These guys were delish!

Try the Thai-Peanut Chili Chicken (without cheese is even better!) with fresh bean sprouts. MMMMMmm.

The kids loved the classic cheese and pepperoni pizza of course.

Also, the Bonfire Brownie is delish.

We give them two thumbs up!

Rita's Ice Food Truck

Breckyn seems to have an eye for finding ice cream of any kind.

After Sliding the City and Grubbin on some killer wood stove Pizza, the kids were begging for ice cream. Luckily Ritas has a food truck! And they just happened to be at the Slides.

I wish we had a Ritas Ice Cream truck that drove around the hood when we were little. Can you even imagine how cool that would be.
We sent the kids over to pick out their desired treat of choice.

Breckyn got key lime Italian ice, and everyone else got Ritas most popular treat, The Gelati, which is basically a layering of Italian ice topped with creamy Frozen Custard.

Because sometimes its just to hard to pick just one.

This was the perfect way to end our summer!

Helpful Tips

Ways to make Slide the City ROCK!

  • Make sure you sign up next year for SURE!
  • Come early.
  • Get your packets ahead of time somehow, or come an hour early like we did.
  • There were three different packages, choose the one that fits your budget, but really, you're going to want to go multiple times. I can't even imagine just going down once!
  • Everyone gets some kind of SWAG!
  • We brought kids agest 6 -12. We saw some younger kids and it's probably not the best idea. There is no stopping on the slides if you've got speed and we saw many children flying from collisions. (We know from experience.)
  • Don't bring the animal tubes, they don't go as fast and ended up just being annoying. Normal tubes are best. Or buy on from Slide the City.
  • Bring some shade, take your time.
    • While people signed up for specific times, we saw people bring chairs, canopies and just camp out watching the fun.
  • Bring water.
  • Bring sunscreen.
  • Wear shoes that won't fall off. We lost many shoes our first run and then just ditched them at the car.
  • If The Photo Bus is there chances are you can get a free photo!

So many fun pictures! I have been wanting to go there since I have been here in Salt Lake. With little kids, it's a bit hard to go, but the lantern festival sounds so much fun too and definetely something we can do with our kids.
