I love fishing. We fished as kids, we fished in high school, we fished throughout college, fished out of my kayaks in Causey Reservoir, we always have a fishing pole in our car. Then I married a man who didn't LOVE fishing the way I did.

Then kids came along. Kids made fishing much more complicated, well, at least toddlers do. So we haven't really fished since having kids, but I decided all that needed to change.

In high school, my family would go fishing at Causey, we'd never catch anything...ever. So after a slightly more aggravating day of no fish, we decided to boost our spirits by going to the Cold Springs Trout Farm! Man, if only I could find that photo from years and year ago. We caught a GIANT fish out of the pond (mind you only one.) and then we all took turns taking photos of it. It was quite the ego booster.

I've been meaning to share this gem with you guys for a while. I went as a child, so it only seems right that my kids went too.

We could have gone and just watched the fish for hours. My kids love that. Once we told them that we were going to feed the fish, it was all over.

We grabbed some poles and a bucket at the front area and some fish food.

You'll have to watch Aiko catch her first fish in the video, it's pretty hilarious. I've also included tips in the video, so be sure to check it out.

Fish are always cool from a distance.

Even my siblings wanted a fish photo.

Aiko kept trying to feed the fish we'd already caught....

Basically, it's super easy to catch a fish. You throw some food in, place your hook and wait for a fish to bite the hook. Sometimes, it can take a while though. Some of the fish are smart and spit out the hook. I feel this only makes it more exciting! Once you catch a fish, you do have to take the hook out yourself, but that's the worst part. You don't even have to GUT the fish. Someone else will do it for you!

Orion did somehow hook his little finger on the hook, so be careful still!

Once we were done fishing, we took our bucket to check-out, asked them to gut and filet the fish and waited. It's totally worth it to me not to gut the fish. Fileting a fish isn't always an easy task either, so I love that you can pay for it.

We were there maybe an hour and a half. It was the perfect amount of time for my toddlers (3 & 2) So why do I love Cold Springs Trout Farm?
