Auntie Rae’s Dessert Island, located in the heart of Holladay at 4704 South Holladay Blvd, became a sweet oasis for my two little boys and I on a rainy night when my husband was working late and we were in the mood for dessert for dinner. We were quickly charmed by the warm environment of the bungalow turned dessert shop and by the cute, helpful gal behind a display of tasty treats. I mean, what’s not to like about a place with the phrase “dessert island” in the name?

They offer everything from full cakes to cookies to ice cream sundaes, at Auntie Rae’s you are sure to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth. I’d been there previously on a date with my husband and knew that the Cookie Sundae ($5) was just what this mama needed after a long day. You’ll have to wait about 10 minutes for it, but it’s definitely worth the wait. Soon you’ll be enjoying a warm, gooey, cookie covered in vanilla ice cream. They usually serve their soft serve on it but the first time I had it they were out of soft serve so they scooped some regular vanilla ice cream on top. I totally preferred it that way, the ice cream held up a bit better on the warm cookie. I’ll request a scoop over the soft serve next time. My 3 year old, however, was thrilled about the vanilla soft serve so I ordered him a cone ($1).

That cone was quickly forgotten the second we entered the ‘Kid Kavern’ which is a dining area specifically for little ones. With seating and tables just their size and a variety of books, puzzles, dress up items and toys, it’s the perfect place for your kiddos to play while you enjoy a sweet treat in peace.

Auntie Rae’s desserts are made fresh and they have a variety of beverage options, including “princess milk”, your choice of milk blended with raspberry syrup ($2). With generous ice cream cones and chocolate chip cookies for $1, Auntie Rae’s is a sweet haven any day of the week. In addition to the cookie sundae we recommend the brownies and Jane’s fudge cake and we are excited to try more of the yummy items on Auntie Rae’s menu.

Auntie Rae’s also hosts special events. Whether it’s a murder mystery, a tea party or a kids party, Auntie Rae has your needs covered. With Free wifi, late business hours (they’re open till 10pm Monday through Saturday) and a family friendly environment, Auntie Rae’s has something that will appeal to everyone. So whether you’re looking for a place to celebrate after your kiddo won their big game, you’re looking to host a party, or your just craving something sweet, Auntie Rae’s is sure to be the dessert island you’ve been dreaming of.

Helpful Tips
  • Plenty of parking on the north side of the building.
  • A note from Auntie Rae about accessibility: Our location is a wonderful bungalow that was built before accessibility was a priority. Because of this the accessibility path isn’t very convenient for those guests with wheelchairs or other walking assisted devices. Our best suggestion is to park in the rear of the building and walk along the south side. This pathway will be an easier grade though there are two changes in the elevation of the sidewalk. Each elevation is about 6″ high. Please call us if you have questions or need special assistance.
  • There is a restroom with a changing pad for babies and stools under the sink so that little ones have an easier time washing their hands.
