Island Park in ONE day

Island Park in ONE day

5 Fun ideas for a quick trip to Island Park. If you only have 1 day or even just a few hours, you can definitely do it all!

BB guns

Save your soda cans! And pack your guns. We live in the city so we don't use our BB guns very often. They were the biggest hit from our trip! All the kids had a blast hitting targets.

Hammocks

Island Park is all about relaxing! Don't forget to take a hammock and just sit back and relax.

River Fun

The river is LONG and WIDE! It's also super slow, so if you can find a shallow spot, it's perfect for kids to play in (with adult supervision). You can also rent a raft and paddle along, but beware, you will HAVE to paddle the ENTIRE way (3 hrs). Because the current is so slow.

Big Springs

You can't go to Island Park without stopping at Big Springs. It is INCREDIBLE! The water is so beautiful and crystal clear. The natural springs is so pretty they don't allow anyone to enter it. No swimming or fishing or boating or floating.. you get the picture. But there was a big crowd of people there on Sunday after church when we were there. Definitely worth the stop.

Johnny Sack Cabin

If you stop at Big Spring, you HAVE to stop at Johnny's Cabin. It's SO DARN CUTE! It's open to the public so you can take a self guided tour and see all of the amazing things that he built. He did it all himself and the detail of the wood work is pretty impressive, even by todays standards. It's just a charming little place that they kids loved. It's about a 5-10 minute walk (with toddlers) along a dirt path from Big Springs. There are signs leading you in the right direction.

Johnny was a short dude, which makes it even more impressive that he built this incredible cabin.

Island Park is about 1hr outside of West Yellowstone, so its a perfect pit stop, or a great place to stay if you're headed up that way.
